As a learning community we believe in providing a diverse range of learning opportunities that challenge and engage individual students.
Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads
The Olympiad programme focuses on individual student improvement by developing student’s problem solving skills. Through Olympiad challenges and workshops we aim to stimulate enthusiasm and enjoyment for mathematics, develop flexible problem solving skills and strategies and foster creativity and ingenuity.
Spelling Bee
The Bethany Spelling Bee is held annually for students in the Bridging and Leadership Centres. All students in years 3 to 6 are encouraged to try out for the Spelling Bee with the top 25 students from each centre invited to compete at the Bethany Spelling Bee.
Each year our two champion spellers (Bridging Centre champion and Leadership Centre champion) represent Bethany at the Wyndham Library Spelling Bee for the chance to be crowned ‘Wyndham’s Champion Speller’.
An exciting opportunity for our spelling champions!
STEM – Science Technology Engineering and Maths
We have had a number of Incursions around the knowledge and skills in the STEM areas.
Exploration and Discovery (Prep to Year 2) have been involved with solving some real life problems around sustainability. The Bridging Centre (Year 3 and 4 ) have delved into Robotics and Lego and coding their own programs.
Students from the Leadership Centre (Year 5 and 6), pictured below, have had the opportunity to develop their understanding of various engineering principles with Engineer Kevin Robinson. Students have looked at topics based around Marine engineering, electrical circuits, gears and building structures and weight distribution. These hands on activites have been a great enrichment to our STEM curriculum.
