At Bethany we believe that Physical Education and Sport plays a key role in the wellbeing of students. Our curriculum provides students with opportunities to develop fundamental motor skills which form the basis of all sports. As these skills develop they are able to apply them to various sports.
The school draws on the expertise of various sporting organisations to compliment the skill development of our students. We also provide students with elite skill pathways to represent the school through interschool competitions and tournaments in various sports.
Bethany Athletics Carnival
Bethany’s Athletics Carnival is held annually at the Werribee Athletics Track. The school has four sport teams; Conifer, Jacaranda, Waratah and Wattle. These teams compete for the Junior and Senior athletics shields by participating in running throwing and jumping athletic and novelty events.
Athletics Squad
Students who compete at an exceptionally high standard at our athletics carnival are selected to represent Bethany at the district athletics.
We are very proud of all our Bethany representatives, and we have also taken out the 2019 Truganina District Championships, defending the titles won in 2016 and 2017 and 2018. We also congratulate our students who have progressed onto regional and state level competition.
Cross Country
During Term 2 the students in Year 4, 5 and 6 are invited to try out for the Bethany Cross Country Team. This opportunity allows our most talented long distance runners to respresent the school at a highly competitive event, and strive to be selected to represent our district at the next stage. The Bethany Cross Country Team is always strongly competitive in the Truganina District competition.
Interschool Sport
Term 2 provides students from the Leadership Centre the opportunity to participate in the Truganina District Interschool Sports Gala Day. Students represent the school with outstanding sportsmanship, skill, leadership and determination in soccer, football and netball. Many Bethany teams have been fortunate enough to progress to the grand finals of the soccer, football and netball winning the championships and progressing into the Wyndham regional finals.
Upon occasion, our football and soccer teams have also successfully qualified for the Western Metropolitan District Championships.
Hoop Time Basketball
Bethany’s basketballers represent our school at the Werribee Hoop Time round robin tournaments. These tournaments provide our Year 3-6 students the opportunity to play in a fun yet challenging competition . The program culminates at the end of each year with Regional Finals and a State Grand Final. In 2018 we are proud to be represented at the Year 3/4 and 5/6 regional finals.
